Design Development Calculations

Water Supply

Theoretical Pipe Location

Equivalent Lengths Chart

The pressure calculated for our theoretical pipe was about 20 psi below the minimum required pressure of 40 psi.  To remedy this, pumps will have to be installed to increase the pressure.

Structural Design Calculations

Beams are 40 feet in length with support from columns and girders between.

Snow Load:

Indiana
Use IBC 2003—15 psf-30 psf with Case Study Areas
RA = RB = wL/2 = [(30 psf)(40 ft)] / 2 = 600 lb

Moment:
Mmax = wL2 / 20 = [(30 psf)(402 ft)] / 8 = 6,000 lb · ft

Snow Load Only - Uniform 30 psf

Live Load:

Reaction:
RA = RB = wL/2 = [(800 psf)(40 ft)] / 2 = 16,000 lb

Moment:
Mmax = wL2 / 20 = [(800 psf)(402 ft)] / 8 = 160,000 lb · ft

Live Load - Assuming 800 lb

Dead Load:

Reaction:
RA = RB = wL/2 = [(20,000 psf)(40 ft)] / 2 = 400,000 lb

Moment:
Mmax = wL2 / 20 = [(20,000 psf)(402 ft)] / 8 = 4,000,000 lb · ft

Dead Load - Assuming 20,000 lb

Heat Loss:

 Q' = (25600 ft2)(1/18.0 BTU/ft2 · hr · °F)(70°F) = 99,555 BTU/hr
